On May 9th 2014, we jumped at the opportunity to be part of the 2014 Palm Beach Chapter of Leukemia & Lymphoma’s Annual Gala to name the Man & Woman of the year! It was a beautiful event for a GREAT cause. We were there in support of our candidate Elena Peroulakis.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Man & Woman of the Year campaign is a fundraising competition among a select group of individuals in the community. While each candidate conducts their own campaign, all candidates are united by one goal: to use their leadership skills to raise funds to help blood cancer patients live longer and more fulfilling lives. By accepting the nomination, candidates will have 10 weeks beginning the day of the kickoff to accumulate the most “votes.” Every dollar raised counts as one vote. The male and female candidates who raise the most votes during the campaign are named the Palm Beach Man & Woman of the Year at the Grand Finale Gala on May 9, 2014.
Candidates run in honor of the Boy & Girl of the Year, who are local blood cancer survivors and sources of inspiration. Candidates are people who are passionate about finding cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. From corporate presidents to ultra marathoners, the diverse candidates and nominees always have two qualities in common: humanity and passion.
More than 1 million people in the United States are living with, or are in remission from a blood cancer. Someone new is diagnosed with a blood cancer every four minutes. New cases of leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma will account for nine percent of the 1.5 million new cancer diagnoses in the United States this year.
We rely on the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations. Proceeds from the 2014 Man & Woman of the Year support our mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Congratulations to our 2013 Man & Woman Candidates who raised over $278,000 to help fund lifesaving research, patient education and support! Our candidate herself raised over $78,000 for this amazing cause and we were there to witness the fruits of her labor and congratulate her as she accepted her award!
